Five Feet

Michael KangIf you require perfection and love to dine in Laguna Beach, then you've heard of Five Feet.  Time and time again I impress friends visiting Laguna with Five Feet's unique presentation & amazing Asian influenced cuisine.  The entire experience is carefully thought out by Mr. Kang, one of the most influential chefs in Southern California.  If you want to go first class at Five Feet the price tag can average close to $100 per person.  If you are on a budget, start with Five Feet's famous Kim Chee. It is served "compliments of the house" as a warm up.  Next share a variety of salads or appetizers.  Then, split the house specialty "Whole Deep fried Catfish" carved tableside &perfect for sharing.  Total Price before drinks and tip is just about $60.00.

In August we teamed up with the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce's star new membership coordinator, Wendy Potter for a dining review.  For the wine drinker, Five Feet is a mecca of fantastic wines, some dating back a decade or more, as well as a great selection of affordable bottles.  We had all previously dined at Five Feet, so to add a new angle to our experience, we asked Owner/Chef, Michael Kang to handle the ordering for us.

We started with the Soft-shell Crab Tempura and a Blackened Ahi Sashimi Salad.  The Ahi Sashimi was incredible, but the Soft-shelled Crab really stood out.  For Dinner we shared a trio of plates that included "Sze Chaun Hot Sisters" a medley of fresh Australian giant white prawns & jumbo black tiger prawns, served over a bed of Thai penne pasta.

Next we split "Beyond Sushi" (fresh Nova Scotia blue fin tuna, wrapped in nori with crab meat, avocado & natural salmon roe.  To complete our meal, we shared a perfectly cooked veal chop.  The portions are huge, so we didn't fit dessert in, but we've eaten the desserts before so make sure & save some room.  There is not an item on this menu that is not perfect.  If you've never been, you can't get there fast enough.
